Today's background tv is a little higher up the food chain than my usual late night drivel though conveniently parcelled into bite-sized portions spanning the immense career of the delightful David Attenborough. Gorgeous cross-section of insights and moments in the natural world - it's amazing to see someone who has experienced so much of our world yet retains his sense of awe and wonder at the mysteries and terrible beauty of nature.
I've not been on any real visits to new and exciting places in so long I have begun to forget how it feels to see a new horizon, to take the first step on a new continent or hear a new language all around. A visit to the wilds of Ghana a few years back re-opened my eyes to the joy of travel and I wonder why I can't recapture that again. Settled, home-owning, family planning, career-progression in place. Good enough reasons? I'm not entirely convinced.
So today's resolution is to learn to take delight in the world around me again.

Shoot the Glass
So somehow it is half past midnight, pumpkin hour has been and gone and I'm once again watching chewing gum television and grumbling online. Tonight's blog title is from the film I've been watching (scroll down to see the depths of my shallowness if you really care).
It's nearly payday at last after the long haul over the holidays, with husband's birthday imminent I'm trawling eBay and dredging the depths of my mind for something special, left-field and perfect. Usually I love buying gifts but this was a big Christmas and I'm stumped for ideas.
Work is draining the life out of me and insomnia is doing the rest, I'm grinding my teeth so much I've destroyed another tooth and to top it all there are major redundancies coming up in the office (deep joy).
So tonight has been a mini whinge, soon I'm going to start writing up the stories and anecdotes from family and friends that I never quite remember right. Husband's random somnulent ramblings will hopefullly go on too and from there. . .what next?
